徐锡伟及其合作者于2009年6月15日发表在《Geology》上的论文《Co-seismic reverse- and oblique-slip surface faulting generated by the 2008 Mw 7.9 Wenchuan earthquake, China. Geology, 2009, 37 (6): 515-518.》最近被著名的汤姆森-路透社(Thomson Reuters)科技信息集团旗下的《Science Watch》(《科学观察》)评选为2011年2月份地球科学领域的“Fast breaking papers(快速突破论文)”。汤姆森-路透社的科技专家依据其独有的《Essential Scientific Indicators (基本科学指标)》数据分析统计体系,对最近取得显著进展或具有特别影响的科研领域进行引用分析和评论,筛选出覆盖面很广的22个科学领域中引用率最高的论文。《Science Watch》每两个月从各个科学领域中选择一篇引用率最高的论文作为“Fast breaking papers”,属各领域每年前1%的顶尖论文,并在其网页上对其进行报道,可以看做是近期科学研究中的一种重要的新趋势,是科学进步的一个重要指标。到目前为止,截止2011年9月该篇论文通过Via Highwire检索SCI引文15次,通过Science网站(Web of Science)检索SCI引用65次。
